The trip to Salaspils
Quite long after midnight, at 2.30 the group of Primary School No. 4 pupils and teachers met at the car park near the railway station before leaving to Latvia. We set off by a luxurious minibus. Around 6 o’clock we passed the Polish and German border although we had a little problem. One of the boys lost his ID card, so we started to look for it. After 15 minutes it was found under the chairs on the bus. What a relief!
At the Berlin airport we were a lot before the flight, so we could do some shopping. We got through all the controls and when the plane was ready, we could fly away. Inside it was so comfortable that I was impressed. The plane was starting very slowly, but then faster and faster. Amazing! I can’t express what I felt. We took off. We went up into the clouds. What a marvelous view! In Latvia we were welcomed by one of our partner schools teacher.
We went straightly to the school where we were picked up by the Latvian pupils’ families. I was made a member of the family. Their daughter, Agnese is at the same age, so we quickly found the common language with each other. At home she has got two dogs and a Siamese cat. Her parents were taking us to and from school every day.
On the first day at this school I took part in 3 lessons and in the afternoon there was the international show of all the partner schools representatives – they were showing and then inviting the rest to join their national games and dances. The meeting went well and it was very instructive. I liked the Finnish show the most because they had a magician’s performance. Up to now I don’t know what was true and what wasn’t. At the end of the day I went to Aqua Park in Riga with Agnese and her dad. I enjoyed it a lot as I love water sports.
The next day I also was at 3 lessons, after which we went for a trip to Riga. It was great. The architecture of the Old Town reminds me the old Polish towns. After sightseeing we had some free time in a huge shopping centre. Later we came back to Salaspils.
When the family picked me up, we altogether went to Riga again. We went to a wonderful restaurant called Lido. It was finely lit and built in the shape of a windmill. After eating a delicious dinner, Agnese’s mum suggested shopping.
On the third day at 9 o’clock the families drove us back to school, said goodbye and we left back to Poland. The bus took us to the airport where again we were controlled many times. However, after the happy landing in Berlin we got on our minibus to our country.
During the journey we all were in very good moods. We couldn’t stop talking about the great experiences in Latvia. It was a new experience that I will remember for a long time.
