Holy
Week begins on Palm Sunday, called also summer or willow Sunday.
It's been celebrated in Poland since the Middle Ages. It starts
up the period of spiritual preparations for the holidays, which
make people calm down, concentrate and remember Christ's pains.
Palms
- willow, boxtree, rupsberry or currant twigs - we decorate them
with flowers, herbs, colourful feathers.
After the palm is blessed,
it's used to beat softly the householders so as to provide them
with happiness for the whole year. Swallowing one of the pussies
is said to bring health and wealth. Put behind a picture or into
a vase, they protect the house from unluck and the neighboars'
malice.
The size of the palms is
considerably magic - the high ones provide the creator long and
happy life. The more beautiful it is, the better life children
will have.
