The Easter Sunday is finally the end of the forty-day Lent. On this day morning, usually at six o’clock we go to church for Resurrection Mass.

The last day of Paschal Triduum  is full  of Easter joy because of the marvel of Resurrection we retrieve. The morning resurrection mass is foregone by the solemn procession with Holy Sacrament. The procession ends with singing the thankful hymn.

The Sunday of Jesus' Resurrection is the main day for Christians. Just after the morning mass the whole family gather at the table. The solemn Easter breakfast begins with a common  prayer at a lit candle or reading fragments of gospel. Next we share the sacred egg - symbol of life - and say wishes. After that we start eating all the dishes put on the table.

What you can find on the Easter table:

·       the food blessed in the Easter basket

·       eggs

·       meat like ham, Polish sausages, meat pie

·       soups like ‘zurek’ with Polish sausages, horseradish soup with Polish sausages or eggs, borsch with eggs

·       Easter cakes like kołacze, mazurki, white cheese cakes

·       green salads

The sign of family's Easter joy perhaps is a common game after breakfast called looking for Easter bunny, which is a small surprise for everyone. In the garden there are hidden chocolate Easter bunnies and who finds more will enjoy the sweet pleasure long.

In the villages young people play ‘tluczenie jajek’. They go to their neighbours with Easter eggs which they hit with each other. The one who breaks the most is the winner.

Finally, the last day of Easter is Wet Monday called Smigus-Dyngus. This is a wonderful day of fun. We sprinkle each other with water, but we can do it only till 12 o’clock at noon. People say it will bring you good luck throughout the year.

It usually starts at 5 o’clock in the morning when boys secretly come into the rooms where girls sleep. They can also snick through a window or sometimes the head of the house let them in. Then the girls are poured with water as long as they start screaming. But in their hearts they are happy, because the act means they will get married very soon.

Ladies wet on that day have more chances for marriage. If a girl gets offended then not quickly will she find a husband. To get herself out of pouring a girl gives an Easter egg, so all girls try to have it prettily decorated. A boy giving a lady an Easter egg on this day, lets her understand that he likes her a lot.
